NOTICE OF  POLLING DAY

THE MEDICAL COUNCIL ACT 1999

(Section 4)

Election of 14 Members of the Medical Council of Mauritius

            Notice is hereby given to all fully registered medical practitioners that a poll for the election of fourteen (14) members of the Medical Council of Mauritius (comprising of  eight (8) members from the public sector, of whom four (4) shall be specialists and four (4) shall be general practitioners and six (6) members from the private sector, of whom three (3) shall be specialists and three (3) shall be general practitioners) will be conducted by the Office of the Electoral Commissioner on Saturday the twelfth (12^th) day of April 2025 between the hours of 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. at the respective polling stations indicated below, and that the candidates are as shown hereunder:

(Section A – Public Sector)

Category: Specialist    (FOUR candidates to be elected)

Category: General Practitioner  (FOUR candidates to be elected)

(Section B – Private Sector)

Part 1 – Category: Specialist    (THREE candidates to be elected)

Part 2 – Category: General Practitioner    (THREE candidates to be elected)

of which all persons are hereby required to take notice and govern themselves accordingly.

DIRECTIONS TO VOTERS

1.         Each elector should produce his National Identity Card or his passport when applying for a ballot paper.

2.         Each elector will be issued with a ballot paper comprising two sections namely:-

                        SECTION A: Candidates from the Public Sector; and

                        SECTION B: Candidates from the Private Sector.

3.         Each elector shall vote for fourteen (14) candidates, namely:

            (i)         four (4) candidates in each part of SECTION A (Public Sector); and

(ii)        three (3) candidates in each part of SECTION B (Private Sector)

by putting a cross (X) opposite the name of each candidate of his choice.

4.         If an elector votes for more than four (4) or less than four (4) candidates in each part of SECTION A and for more than three (3) or less than three (3) candidates in each part of SECTION B or places any mark or writing on the ballot paper by which he could afterwards be identified, his vote(s) will be void and will not be counted.

5.         If an elector inadvertently spoils a ballot paper, he may return it to the Presiding Officer, who, on being satisfied of the fact, will issue him with another one.

6.         No elector will be allowed to vote by proxy, except those serving in Rodrigues, Agalega or at Mauritian Embassies or High Commissions abroad.

7.         An elector who has appointed a proxy to vote on his behalf will not be entitled to vote in person.
